I've installed Kubuntu 12.04 LTS 64bit on an HP Pavilion G62231dx.
The major difficulties are to do with the graphics - you will be best off downloading the AMD driver from here:
Be aware that AMD have the graphics processor integrated in the APU, which means that you are going to lose a chunk of your RAM for the graphics to use, and the amount is not configurable from anywhere in Linux that I can find. With 4Gig RAM, I am only seeing 3.2 available because the rest is reserved for the graphics processor during startup. It is not alterable through old versions of the BIOS either… and I'm not sure about newer versions.
This leads to my tale of woe, because I blew away Windoze before having updated the BIOS, so I am now unable to use the HP provided .exe. (No link; you'll have to navigate the labyrinthine HP support site to find the relevant BIOS updater for your model - make sure to leave some breadcrumbs). Even the old trick of using cabextract to pull an image from the .exe no longer works, presumably because HP are using some dark sorcery to avoid just this kind of thing.
Anyway - my advice: make sure you've got the BIOS where you want it, or have produced a bootable CD or USB that will allow you to do so, before you gleefully eliminate all M$ products from your shiny new laptop. This shouldn't be an issue if you have a dual-boot system.
Works smoothly, but best if using the AMD driver, and kiss some RAM goodbye. I'd like to know if anyone has any luck configuring the amount of RAM through the BIOS, or any other way.
