Notes

The microphone does not seem to function properly at the moment. Hopefully an ALSA update will fix this issue.

An up to date distribution is required to get much of the hardware in this laptop working properly. Ubuntu 7.10, Fedora 8 and other distributions release around this time should support the Extensa 5620 just fine.

Summary

The Acer Extensa 5620 works just fine under Linux. As long as a recent Linux distribution is used you shouldn't have any problems at all.

I really need partition table file from below

I made partition table backup using Extensa 5220 but hdd drive as partitions in this model are smaller. After recovery 5520's partition table as well as after restoring 5620's files black screen appears (D2D is enabled). Moreover when i restore original mbr using windows app and binary file (MBRwrWin.exe restore rtmbr.bin) which comes from my partimage backup nothing appears and hdd led blinks into infinity.

Maybe partition table file isn't unnecessary but then any fixing utility is needed. In this case restoring utility is useless - i have made changes in my partition table many times. This means my original partition table long ago is lost).

Hi all!

Anyone have this model with original vista system and partition table? If it's so, please let give me access to the output file from command below:

dd if=/dev/hda of=backup-hda.mbr count=1 bs=512

I have backed-up image of PQSERVICE partition with partimage only (see http://www.partimage.org/Partimage-manual_Backup-partition-table for details) and it was my mistake. I lost my partition table and i'm unable to restore it back.

Suspend to RAM is working fine for me. Using kernel 2.6.33 and Debian Sid

For what I know, nobody has been able to get suspend working, in Linux or Windows.

Wireless NIC is 3945, not 4965.

$ lspci | grep Wireless
04:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection (rev 02)

The delete key was not working under Fedora 9, but I did yum update and it works fine now.

If you don't want to update or you can't, etc, a workaround for this is:
xmodmap -e “keycode 242 = Delete”

Had to switch to VESA display on Fedora 9, X Windows was flickering on the Radeon HD 2400 XT driver.

Wireless not reccognized.

Everything seems to work except that wireless is not found. I installed ubuntu 8.04 without a problem other wise. Wired works fine so far.

I replaced the 250 GB drive with a 320 GB without any problems.

I want to get better using linux and competent user.

Microphone does not work

With Hardy (Ubuntu 8.04) There's a bug for Centrino based laptops like my Acer Extensa 5620, so I can't get connected to WEP based authentication Wifi, according to what I found you can get this fixed on Kernel 2.6.27.1, which is available now, but I guess that I'm still a n00b so I could not get it to upgrade correctly.

Also the mic does not work and well I have not found a way of fixing it, if anybody got it please give me a hand!.

Cheers

linux driver

Hi! where can i find drivers for my extensa 5620g or 5620? Please reply! Thanks

Markus, 2008/08/19 02:36

Ubuntu Live-CD 8.04.1 had some problems with the graphics but using the option safe-graphics mode it was possible to install and after the install activate the ATI-driver and all was fine.

Wireless card worked out of the box with WPA and everything.

I have not got the microphone to work yet.

The linux compatibility with this laptop is somewhat documented at http://www.linuxlaptopwiki.net/wiki/Acer_Extensa_5620

the problems with the card reader are being solved in here http://openfacts.berlios.de/index-en.phtml?title=TI%20FlashMedia%20xx12%2Fxx21%20driver

Card Reader XD → :(

The XD-cards don't work either, at least not on ubuntu 8.04 - of other distros I really don't know. Seems that only the SD-cards are the only working ones.

Wenca, 2008/03/12 09:42

Card readers tested with SD card and good work.
