Linux kernel version 2.6.24 has just been released. The major changes in this version for laptop users is the inclusion of tickless support for x86-64 as well as new and updated wireless drivers.

Ubuntu 7.10 has just been released. This version adds support for a number of new hardware found it recently released laptops, including the Intel GMA X3100 and Intel 4965AGN. This is one of the best Linux distributions available for laptop users.

Version 0.9.3.3 of the Madwifi driver has been released. This version is a security related release so it is recommended all users upgrade.

The NDisWrapper project has just released version 1.48 of their driver. This version adds support for kernel 2.6.23 and also includes some bug fixes.

Dell have just announced that they will shortly begin selling laptops with Ubuntu Linux pre-installed in the UK, France and Germany. This expands on their offering of Ubuntu systems in the USA.

Lenovo has just annouced that they will be releasing laptops with SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 pre-installed. These laptops will be targeted to the enterprise market and are expected to be released later this year.

The ipw3945 driver for the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG has just been updated. This release is mainly a bug fix release which also adds support for kernel 2.6.22.

A testing version of the NDISwrapper driver has been released. Version 1.48-rc1 fixes a bug with wpa and also adds support for the 2.6.23-rc1 kernel.

The ipw2200 driver for the Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG has just been updated. This release is mainly a bug fix release which also adds support for kernel 2.6.22.
