I can't turn on camera. Skype and cheese do see it. Can you help me?
Well i got a X305 Q705 and are you guys sure the sound is ok? As far as i can tell the subwoufer and one set of the front speakers arent working. And i got the same headphone jack problem. I read somewhere in the ubuntu forums that updating the alsa drivers for a more resent ones fixed that… But when i tried to install them i ended up screwing my sound. (Im still learning about linux, so i guess that could be my bad).
About the video… Well seems a little dissapointing, i downloaded compiz git and the cube seems to run slow and pixelated compared to the games im running under windows… I figured the bluetooth wasnt working but i didnt check much into it yet. My main concerns are the audio and video problems… I dislike vista a lot, and i wish i could delete it already and move to linux again… Im starting to think i made a mistake when i bought this laptop without properly checking if linux would run smooth.
Any ideas are really appreciated, and very welcomed. If i come up with solutions i will let you guys now.
I also have the X305-Q705 but I am running Fedora 10. I have the same problem with sound. The only speakers working are the two little ones next to the monitor. As of yet, I haven't attempted to fix it, but will because I can barely hear anything, especially in games.
Did wireless networking work for you out of the box or did you have to do something to get it working? I am installing with Ubuntu 8.04 and the wireless interface is not showing up under “networking.” Also I can't get the wired network interface to succeed at DHCP. I know the cable's good and so on.
If you had to do something to get wireless working, what was it?
Thanks!
8.04 will see it as the wrong chipset there for the wrong WIFI Card. If your going to do a install just install the latest.
I have the X305 Q701 as well. I installed the 32 bit version. I wanted flash support. Things that work are as Follows
WIFI: Slow but functional
HDMI: Works after you install the nvidia 7.1xx driver.
Video: SAME AS ABOVE
HOT KEYS: not working
Web Cam: Works. Works by Cheese standards.
Sound: Works.
Headphone jack: I have sound but doesn't disable the speakers. Kinda pointless.
I installed Ubuntu 8.10 (64-bit) on my Qosmio X305 Q701 over the weekend. Everything appears to be running fine, although not without a few hiccups. The default sound drivers created a crackle in the speakers. I installed the linux Realtek High Definition Audio drivers from Intel's site, and the problem went away. Not sure about all of my ports just yet, although USB seems to be working fine (Virtual Box reports a missing USB Proxy Servive), and I haven't tested the HDMI port. I installed the madwifi drivers with the hopes that it would solve a wireless networking problem, but it turned out that the default Network Manager could not connect to my wireless router (D-Link DIR-615) so I installed Wicd instead, and the problem was solved. However, I cannot obtain an IP after waking up from sleep mode, I have yet to find a solution for that.
