Ubuntu 8.10 works perfectly on this Acer laptop. All drivers have been installed correctly. Bluetooth, wireless, ethernet network and the video card works great. I recommed you to install the new version of Ubuntu 8.10 (Inteprid).
The Acer Extensa 5630G works just fine under Linux. As long as a recent Linux distribution is used you shouldn't have any problems at all. I recommed to use the recent Ubuntu realease, it works just fine.

Hi,
I installed Debian 'squeeze' (testing) on this laptop and most things are very well supported out-of-the-box.
I tested everything that you have listed here, except the ExpressCard Slot and the Card Reader, and all works well. Also, my laptop doesn't have a bluetooth adapter, so obviously I didn't test that.

Same experience for me: everything worked like a charm when I installed Ubuntu 8.10, and Linux flies on this machine. It is a very nice low cost computer with good performance and excellent Linux compatibility, although it is more of a semi-portable desktop replacement than a traditional laptop.
