Either the Xorg nv driver or Nvidia's proprietary one can be used with the graphics chip in this laptop, however if you want 3D support you need the later driver. Our Configuring a nVidia graphics chip guide can be helpful with installation issues for the proprietary driver.

Summary

Very little work was needed to get linux working on the Asus A8Jm. Most Linux distribution should not have any problems at all here. Opensuse 10.2 seems to run better than Ubuntu 7.04 based distributions.
