Notes

NVIDIA has a set of driver which provide 3D support for the NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300. You will need to install these drivers for 3D support. You may like to see our Configuring a nVidia graphics chip howto.

ALSA version 1.0.14rc1 or greater is required for the audio to work on the Asus F3Jc. At this time no distribution includes this so you will need to install it manually.

The r1000 driver is required for the network controller on the Asus F3Jc to function. Since this is a proprietary driver not many Linux distributions include it so manual installation is necessary. You can obtain this driver from Realtek's site. Work is being done in kernel version 2.6.19 which should provide support for this as well.

Summary

A bit of configuration work is required for the Asus F3Jc so it may be a difficult laptop to deal with for beginners. Future kernel releases should make this easier eventually.

Bluetooth works out of the box on Fedora 7.

... the integrated webcam will work if you pull the latest driver from http://syntekdriver.sourceforge.net/ (via SVN).

Be sure to change line 63 from:

static int default_vflip = -1;

to

static int default_vflip = 1;

If you don't do this, your image will be flipped as if you are upside down.

(above patch was required for Rev. 52 - may not be necessary for later revisions)

Thanks Bill. Will let you know how it goes and about CAD. Busy now so may be a little while.

F3JC with CAD

I'm hoping to install Linux to my ASUS F3JC-AP015P and use a Linux CAD package with it to do basic architectural wiring diagrams and similar.

Haven't had great deal of luck with Linux in the past and reading forums it sounds like this might be difficult at the moment.

Can anyone help? Recommended distros and CAD programmes...
Thanks

The details here are a little old now. You probably wouldn't have a problem installing Ubuntu 7.04 or Fedora 7 on this laptop as they both have kernel version 2.6.20 or greater.

I have no idea about CAD.
