This is a guide to running Linux with the Asus F6V laptop.
This guide is intended to provide you details on how well this laptop works with Linux and which modules you need to configure. For details on how to actually install and configure the required modules have a look at our guides section for distribution specific instructions.

You need to use kernel version 2.6.27 or later (Ubuntu 8.10, Fedora 10, etc.) for proper support from this laptop.
As long as you use a distribution with kernel 2.6.27 the Asus F6V works well.
Discussion
Things supported with the default install:
- webcam
- wireless
- SD-card
- sound (recording and playback)
- usual stuff (hard disk, memory, DVD, …)
Things I didn't try:
- fingerprint scanner (which didn't seem to work in the included Vista)
- Bluetooth (it's optional and my laptop doesn't have it built-in)
- modem (it's optional and my laptop doesn't have this)
- Ethernet
- ExpressCard

With Ubuntu Jaunty the mouse cursor looked ugly until I installed the ATI proprietary drivers.
This was done by running System → Administration → Software Sources, then clicking on the “Third Party Software” tab, selecting the “partner” source, logging out and back in. After this, I was able to run System → Administration → Hardware Drivers, then choosing the ATI driver and clicking the “Enable” button. After a reboot, it is working.
Everything works with Ubuntu 8.10 or Arch with the new kernel. Careful for sound with alsa, there's a line you must add. Search for the board name (from lspci) and ubuntu and you'll get the answer straightforward.

wireless (intel wifi link 5100) - works ok (just install the compat-wireless pack of drivers)
wireless does not work!!!!! linux not even install wireless interface…. just ethernet interfaces…
