Notes on installing RussianFedora 10

The things need to be configured are: sound card and video adapter.
To get sound card working create file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base with contents:
options snd-hda-intel model=g71v

To install ATI Catalyst driver from repositories, enable nonfree and nonfree-updates repositories, and install package xorg-x11-drv-fglrx. This driver has the bug, which hangs the system when using fast user switching in gdm. To disable fast user switching, rename file /usr/bin/gdmflexiserver.

Notes on installing Ubuntu 9.04

Ubuntu 9.04 finds sound card automatically.

Summary

Wireless works, but have not been sufficiently tested, because there are too few WiFi access points in Belarus.
Conclusion: this laptop is in general compatible with Linux.
