Notes

For the graphics chip you can use either the open source nv driver and Nvidia's proprietory one. For 3D support, you will need the proprietory driver.

The network port on this laptop is the Realtek 8168. You need a recent kernel to get this working, such as the one included with Ubuntu Linux 6.06, Fedora Core 5 and Suse Linux 10.1.

Summary

The Asus V6J work well when using a Linux distribution with at least the 2.6.16 kernel, such as Ubuntu Linux 6.06 or Fedora Core 5.

It looks like the original kernel in FC5 is a touch too old to work with the network card. Try upgrading to the latest kernel version for FC5 (kernel-2.6.16-1.2133) and it should work.

All good ideas, we'll likely implement these shortly.

> - Rankings on its support. This would be good for example I want a laptop that has native wireless support, 56k modem and audio. It would be good if a user could select what they want then it lists laptops with those features in order of price.

Unfortunately due to the nature of a wiki this may be difficult to implement. However it is an excellent idea so we'll look into it.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Some suggestions.

- Links to manufacturer's home page with details on the laptop
- Approx cost
- Date purchased (helps knowing if the laptop is even available anymore new)
- Rankings on its support. This would be good for example I want a laptop that has native wireless support, 56k modem and audio. It would be good if a user could select what they want then it lists laptops with those features in order of price.
