Notes

Tested on 9.04 and 9.10. Wireless works perfectly although the LED indicator doesn't light up. Compiz works great with ATI proprietery drivers. Web camera shows the picture upside down. Haven't found a workaround though you can compensate for that in Cheese program by selecting Vertical flip in Effects. But there is a patch for UVC kernel module which fix it.

Asus X59SL, same specs as above.

Used with Ubuntu 8.04, 8.10, 9.04 (all 32bit) and now 9.10 (64bit)

From 9.04 on all hardware is supported out of the box. 8.04 and 8.10 had issues with WLAN and Card reader. WLAN issue was resolved by downloading and compiling ATH5K driver.

Used to be dual boot with Vista.

Im very happy with Ubuntu 8.04.3 on this laptop. The only thing I cant force to work is the sound, havent found any driver jet. Jep, I still cant use the built in 4GB ram, but that doesnt matter, 3GB is far enough to work with. I recommend this laptop.

Asus X59SR running Fedora, Monday 02 of November, 2009 [22:23:57]

This laptop works exceptionally well with Fedora. I'm very happy with it. (Do downgrade Udev, though.) The card reader and wireless work flawlessly. Highly recommended.

Asus core 2 Duo P8400, HD: 320GB else my specs are the same as above.

Works quite well under linux, tried debian, ubuntu and archlinux.
Some problems with Wifi: Cannot connect cause of time out. No solutions found at the moment.
Some problems with Ethernet: works well under 32bits environment, doesn't work at the moment under 64bits environment with more than 3GB of ram. Actual hack is to pass “mem=3G” option to the kernel line in grub.

Not tested webcam and bluetooth.
