Notes

The NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 in the Pavilion dv9000z works with both the open source 'nv' driver and NVIDIA's proprietary 'nvidia' driver. For installation instructions, you can view our Configuring a nVidia graphics chip guide. For 3D support, you will need the proprietary driver.

At the moment there are no working native wireless drivers for the Broadcom controller found in the HP dv9000z. You will need to use the ndiswrapper driver for the controller to work. See below for our guide to using ndiswrapper. You can find the required windows drivers here.

For the audio in the dv9000z to work properly you will need to use ALSA version 1.0.14 or greater. You may also need to add the following line to your /etc/modprobe.conf (or your distribution's equivalent) file:
options snd-hda-intel model=hp position_fix=1

Summary

The HP Pavilion dv9000z is not the best supported laptop under Linux. The major problem is with the wireless controller which isn't yet properly supported by Linux.

Quick play buttons

by Randy Batterbee, Sunday 13 of January, 2008 [01:17:35 UTC]
The Quick Play buttons on the top of my dv9317cl are configurable with klineakconfig. I used one of the pre-existing setups for a hp 1000 series if I remember correctly. I had problems with the apps custom setup features. I had to make the custom setup and then copy it into the default setup file for it to work. I am running Debian Lenny64

Supported hardware.

With the latest kernel, sound is fully supported.
Wireless works with ndiswrapper but if you have a pre-n BCM4328, its flakey as hell, crashing every other day or so.
Firewire works flawlessly (tested with Sony DV camcorder)
Webcam works perfectly with uvc video driver.
