Notes

The HP 2510P has fairly standard components and so work well with a up to date Linux distribution. You should use a distribution with at least kernel 2.6.22 for best support.

Summary

As long as a distribution with kernel 2.6.22 or greater is used, such as Ubuntu 7.10, the HP 2510P works just fine with Linux. Everything was automatically detected and configured properly.

Otherwise install of Ubuntu 7.10 seems to work, but problems with the display drivers and sleep mode:

  • Display goes black when returning from screen saver. I've seen mentions of the backight not turning on after resume from sleep, this might be it.

  • A jagged, flickering 10-20 pixel wide pattern along the left edge on external monitor (SyncMaster 245t). Probably due to slightly wrong refresh rates used by the default Plug and Play monitor driver (the laptop does not have any DVI output, only DSUB, even with the dock).

Solving Lid-Problems under ubuntu

by pableu, Friday 29 of February, 2008 [07:19:24 UTC]
There are some problems when closing the lid under Ubuntu Gutsy and Hardy. See here for more Infos: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/acpid/+bug/157691

For the moment, you can just execute the following on start, for example in /etc/rc.local:
sudo echo 1 > /proc/acpi/video/*/DOS
