HP-Compaq 6730S

hi!!

i have this pc with ubuntu 9.04, i will change this to have 64 bit version…but…
is better ubuntu than fedora? what's the best version for this pc?
(ubuntu, fedora, opensuse etc etc…)

You got to update to the newest ALSA (1.0.20) to make it work, thenn add the
“options snd-hda-intel model=laptop enable=1 index=0”
line.

I have bought a new hpcompaq 6730s laptop and I have failed to install the sound because of
CD damage so please help me.

BTW: Everyone with a HP computer (this counts for desktops also) use the p/n witch you can find at the bottem of your device.
the 6730s numbers can be totaly different hardware.

for instance i have a intel mobile 4 siries graphics in my laptop (p/n: na83dea)

if someone updates this please post a comment i will update the new page with my findings

fun does not stop .. it runs at 100% speed.

this makes this laptop simply unsable with ubuntu

Hi,

Anyone any luck suspending the computer? I seem to be able to get it to sleep, but when I try to wake it up it simply freezes with the fan on at maximum speed. I use ubuntu 8.10.

Sound problem solved

It's okay - I just updated my Alsa (I had 1.0.17, now I have 1.0.19, thanx http://monespaceperso.org/blog-en/2009/02/10/acer-aspire-6920-no-sound-on-ubuntu-810-upgrade-of-alsa/) and added the line “options snd-hda-intel model=laptop enable=1 index=0” in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base. Then I run “sudo alsamixer” and wooha! I can hear you! ;)

I installed the ALSA .19 driver and added the line in the alsa-base and restarted the whole thing but still no sound from the speakers… Please help!

I managed to get sound work properly on Arch.

All I needed, was to put the line in /etc/modprobe.conf, that this tutorial suggests.

And run alsaconf.

I use opensuse 11.1 x64 (alsa 1.0.18-8) with hp 6730b. with parameter model=laptop I got sound
all other things working fine

I've just upgraded to Opensuse 11.1 (kernel 2.6.27.7-9).

64bit.

Improvements from Opensuse 11.0:

- Wireless networking (wifi) works
- Sound works but the volume is too low (in Windows Xp, volume is much higher)

However:

- ATI Graphics driver (fglrx) does not work (It was working fine under Opensuse 11.0). This seems to be because the drvers have not yet been released on the ATI software repositories for Opensuse 11.1

I've just got my 6730s speaker working.

HP 6730s sound, WiFi and Fn key problem

I am using OpenSuSE 11 with self compiled kernel 2.6.27.5, because of WiFi. Right now WiFi works perfect.
Sound - upgraded Alsa to latest 1.0.18, edited /etc/modrpobe.d/sound and it works.
Content of /etc/modrpobe.d/sound file:
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel enable=1 index=0 model=laptop

Abount Fn (Function keys) - sound controlling works (except Mute), brightness controll doesn't and external monitor as well. Tryed to install newer version of HAL, it resulted to no sound again. I hope in OpenSuSE 11.1 these anoying things will be fixed (about wifi i'm sure, because of 2.6.27.* kernel is included).

HP 6830s sound problem

Now i got the internal speakers working on my 6730s with Ubuntu 8.10.
(before only the headphone jack did work)

just add to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base the following line:
options snd-hda-intel model=laptop enable=1 index=0

sound too

i've the same problem, all works exept the sound speaker. any idea??

I also have a hp compaq 6730s.
The problem for me is that the sound speaker does not work, whereas all is fine with the headphones.
(I use alsa 1.0.18)
Could you give me some tips?
