Notes

Graphics

For the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3200 you will need to install the ATI's proprietary fglrx module to get proper display support since the X.org drive does not yet support this controller. You can find instructions in doing this in the guides section.

Wireless

For wireless to function you need to use a Linux distribution which includes kernel 2.6.27 or greater. Older kernels do not support the Broadcom controller. Ubuntu 8.10 works well for this.

Summary

The Broadcom controller in the HP-Compaq 6735B makes this a poor choice for Linux. This is typical for laptops with Broadcom wireless as Broadcom in general doesn't support Linux properly at all.

Hello every body, I have Ubuntu 10.04 installed on this computer and I can't use WIFI cause the tactile button that I have to press in order to activate the WiFi is locked … Someone can help me please ?

You need to install the proprietary drivers for the broadcom hardware to work. In ubuntu its easy: In the UI goto “System” - “Administration” - “Hardware Drivers”.(Note: you will need to user a wired connection ie. Network cable) Once you update your drivers your wireless should work and the wireless button should turn blue. (Note on mine I cannot use the button to turn the card on and off. If i try the card will turn off but then the only way I can get it working is to reboot.) Also while you at it install the drivers for the video card also.

Hello, I would use this laptop for recording the audio from a mixer in a disco using the input line of the sound card. But I don't know What is the channel audio of the input line (where I plug the jack of the mixer).

Modem not detected

On Ubunty 8.10 everything except modem works well. Following:

http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/ltmodem/11c11040/HOWTO-Agere-11c11040-HDA.html

seems to be the solution, however file hda_codec.c is not on the system. How to install this file, or to find some other solution?

Getting sound

You can get sound with adding this line to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
options snd-hda-intel model=laptop enable=1 index=0

Thank you! This solved my sound problem. Seems I searched for hours before I found the fix. Now it's working great!

racer666, Saturday 08 of August, 2009 [10:11:13]

Mine as well. Execellent!!! Thank you!

Pekka Taipale, Saturday 05 of September, 2009 [05:58:25]

On Ubuntu 9.04, this brought sound but then the original kernel upgraded from 2.6.28-11 to 2.6.28-13, 14, 15, and sound went away.

Adding lines

alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel

before the line

options snd-hda-intel model=laptop

in /etc/modprobe.d/options helped.

Now everything I need on this laptop (WLAN, graphics, sound, 3G) works, except that where coming out of suspend, the screen blanks and that is unrecoverable. Hibernate works, so it's not that severe.

Works well except sound.

On ubuntu 8.10 everything except sound works correctly. Earlier versions had sound at least on headphones but now i don't hear anything.
As for other things, web cam works, card reader works, wireless with broadcom driver works 100% stable so far, bluetooh also works with a catch that if it's disabled in windows Linux can't use it.
Graphics with ATI driver works correctly. Compiz works with minor quirks.

The Broadcom STA Wireless 3rd party driver works well, the graphics are fine but not good out of the box - needed to install ATI Catalyst and al the deps and use the generic VESA driver 'fglrx'. After a few hours of messing I have full 3D with Compiz stable and running at full widescreen resolution.

I still cannot hear audio via the built-in speakers but headphones work.

Sound Problem

I have a audio proplem on this notebook with ubuntu hardy. I cant hear a sound but if i listen hoparlor closely i can hear very very low sound. How can i get fully powerfull sound on Hardy?

Bill Giannikos, Wednesday 22 of October, 2008 [03:07:32]

You could try updating your sound drivers. Try this guide.

Bill Giannikos, Tuesday 11 of November, 2008 [06:29:03]

I used this guide and I got sound.

Kelly, Tuesday 24 of March, 2009 [04:23:33]

I ran into this problem. Sound worked with the headphones, but not out of the internal speakers. This linked worked (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/269027) and got the sound back on my system. Thanks for listing it!!

HP 6735b Laptop: Suse & Fedora Core 9 flavors - LINUX

Greetings,

I have installed SuSe 11.0 and Fedora Core 9 both i386 images on this system with
little problems: The Fedora Core 9 does hickup periodically with segmentation faults
but simple reboot does fine. The SuSe 11.0 runs well with no hicups or challenges.

In both versions, everything works: All System components, display, keyboards, etc.
My only challenge is utilizing ceiling projectors/epson 77 power lite: External VGA
monitor connection did not work.
KR,
Jeff
