Introduction

This is a guide to running Linux with the HP-Compaq Presario V5000t laptop. The Presario V5000t is a very cheap laptop with basically the minimum set of components currently available. Because of the Broadcom controller used, Linux support is poor.

Notes

As default the Presario V5000t's native screen resolution is 1280x800, however due to the way the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 works this resolution would not be usable right away. To fix this issue you will need to use the 915resolution tool and follow our Configuring the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 & 950 guide.

This Presario V5000t uses a Broadcom wireless controller which means that you will need to use ndiswrapper since there is no native drivers available for Linux. The windows drivers to use can be found on the HP website. For installation instructions, you can view our Configuring the ndiswrapper driver guide.

Summary

Unfortunately the HP-Compaq Presario V5000t uses a Broadcom wireless network card which means that configuring this laptop for Linux is quite tricky.
