Notes

For the ATI Mobility Radeon x1400 graphics chip found in the P1 you can use either the open source radeon module or ATI's proprietary fglrx module. For installation instructions please view our Configuring an ATI graphics chip guide.

The ethernet controller in the P1 is only supported by the experimental et131x driver. This driver is not included with most Linux distributions so you will need to download and install manually. The driver is available from here.

Summary

Because of the ethernet controller the LG P1 can be an issue for people needing to use this feature. Other than that this laptop works well with Linux.

Linux o LG P1

by Hugh Gribben, Saturday 08 of November, 2008 [01:40:53 UTC]
I am running the LG P1 laptop in a triple boot mode (Windows XP Pro (came with laptop) Windows Vista Ultimate (later purchased) and Ubuntu 8.04 and the eithernet controller works without problems, there is though 2 other problems that I have with this laptop and Linux. The first being that the sound card works only when there are speakers plugged in, (I cant work out how to make it use the internal speakers, as well as not being able to re-configure the ports like I can in Vista to allow 5.1 channel sound unless i use the SPDIF. The second problem I have is if I turn the wireless cards off in XP or vista I am unable to turn them back on in Ubuntu so i have to re-boot out of UBUNTU and back into windows to turn them back on then reboot back into UBUNTU again. ANOYING!!!!
But as for the eithernet controller, It works fine
