Notes
Since the R100 does not include an optical drive you will need an alternative installation method. An external USB optical drive works fine and a network installation should be possible as well. The Trident XP4m32 graphics chip in the Portege R100 is not well supported under Linux. Currently you may use either the 'vesa' or 'trident' driver for limited support however both of these options do not provide proper acceleration and so are very slow.

Summary
The Trident graphic chip used in the Toshiba Portege R100 is not well supported under Linux at the moment. This issue makes the R100 a poor choice for Linux. If you are looking to purchase this laptop you can visit Toshiba's Portege page.
