Notes

WiFi Drivers: On Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala you will have issues with the Broadcom BCM4312 802.11b/g wifi card. After installing Ubuntu 9.10 and applying all updates, it will have trouble booting. It gets to the point where the white Ubuntu logo should appear and start glowing, but it never does. To sort this out, you have to keep rebooting the machine until it works (I found booting in single-user mode to help, but not everytime) and install the broadcom drivers (use the following command: sudo jockey-text -e kmod:wl). After that, the machine will boot with no problems whatsoever and work just fine. While trying to boot the device, it might be useful to disable the built-in WLAN from BIOS. Hope I solved someone else's headache.

WiFi Connectivity issues: After the above mentioned problems I ran into problems with WiFi connectivity. I would randomly lose connection to my wireless router. I was unable to fix the problem with the laptop, but instead I configured the router and disabled “Auto Channel Scan” (so it doesn't change frequencies while I'm connected to it) and set “Channel Width” to 20MHz instead of Auto 20/40MHz. I'm not sure which one of these settings made my laptop not lose connectivity anymore, but one of them certainly did.
