Dear,
How to install crystal eye webcam & Google Video chat in ubunthu 9.10?
Please help in this dude,,,,
I have purchased ACER ASPIRE 5740G with following specification :
Processor : i5-430M processor (3 MB L3 cache, 2.26 GHz, turbo bust up to 2.53 GHz)
RAM : 4GB DDR3
HDD : 500GB
Graphics : ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5650
I installed mandriva 2010.0 on it, but it couldn't start GUI ( ended up in command prompt ). It couldn't recognize ATI Mobility Redeon HD 5650. So I downloaded graphics driver from http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx?type=2.4.2&product=2.4.2.3.30&lang=us&rev=10.4&ostype=Linux%20x86_64
IT is for ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4600 series but will work fine
after that I did following steps :
1) Install kernel source package (rpm) from DVD itself
2) Install ati-driver-installer-10-4-x86.x86_64.run
3) Reboot machine.
After that it will work prefectlly fine

I've just installed Ubuntu 10.04 lucid lynx on my new Acer Aspire 5740G with this specifications:
Intel Core i5 430M
ATI HD 5650
6GB RAM
640GB Hard disk
Model: 5740G-436G64Mn
P/N: LX.PMB02.214
And everything is Ok. ATI HD 5650 is working perfectly with the FGLRX privative driver, compiz enabled, no watermark messages and wifi signal is ok without loses.
Tested on Ubuntu Lucid Lynx kernell 2.6.32-22
Resumen para los españoles: Todo funciona sin problemas! :)
Jon, i have the same problems as you have. I've been trying to fix them, but pointless. If you find a good solution, please let me know.
The lastest Lucid Lynx beta for Ubuntu works with video drivers without the watermark. The main problem I've had with distros is not detecting the ethernet. Ubuntu 10.04 seems to be the best out of the box experience so far.
I've had the similar problem in Ubuntu. Also, when I installed Mandriva 2010 Powerpack. Loading ends in Terminal. Does Mandriva (or Linux) fully support ATI HD 5650??? Thx for responds:)
I have the Acer 5740G and would really love to run Ubuntu on it.
I installed the latest ubuntu (9.10?) and what I've seen looks great.
I have run into many problems though.
1. Video drivers not supported. Had to force the ati drivers for my radeon 5650 and this adds a watermark to the desktop. Watermark can be removed, but there are still video problems, primarily when trying to playback any kind of video. Video plays but looks terrible, as if there are only a few colors being used.
2. Wifi signal is dropped after just a few minutes. Internal Atheros 5x series card, connected to N 2.4ghz mode network. Sometimes able to reconnect, but usually a reboot is required.
3. “Null Pointer” kernel crash on every boot and machine locks up after 10-20 minutes most every time I start it up.
I'm very new to linux, and definitely far from an expert. I just barely figured out how to install the video drivers! :)
I can tear a windows or mac install apart and put it back together again in no time, but Linux is obviously not the same.
Anyone else using this setup? Have you had any of the same problems? If so, any solutions?
