Help with Acer eMachines E525. When I start ubuntu linux turn off the light of the laptop and nothing is visible only with a focus

J-F lucas, Tuesday 24 of January, 2012 [18:49:27]

What do you mean by : linux turn off the light. Do you mean the screen ?

I cant understand what you do “with a focus”, to get something visible on your laptop.

I try to install ubuntu but it turns out the light from the laptop to start installation

J-F lucas, Wednesday 25 of January, 2012 [05:20:17]

If i guess what you do :
- you insert an ubuntu install CD.
- the CD is recognized.
- At a moment the video screen is turned off, but can you tell me when ?

  • do you first get a menu screen from ubuntu, and choose a command and then the screen is switch off ?
  • Do you immediately get the screen off ?

A second general question : does your laptop work properly under windows Vista ?
A third question : have-you tried with an other ubuntu install CD or install version ?
An advice : please, make an effort to explain clearly what happens.

I had windows 7 ran perfectly Now I try to install Ubuntu 11.04 * Insert the DVD runs perfectly * Displays a Rose With Two Figures * turns off screen brightness and light When all the letters of ubuntu * You see the picture But it has Help me light

just turn off the light, the image does not turn off .. It starts when installed, and the Ubuntu logo

J-F Lucas, Thursday 26 of January, 2012 [04:41:06]

If windows 7 is functioning well on your laptop, this means that its hardware is (could be) operating well. It can be a install software problem. You must check the DVD media quality and the Ubuntu version, that is try with an other DVD (for example an internet installation), and/or with an other oldest Ubuntu version.
Go and see if others people around you have the same analysis of the situation than me. Anyway, to try and test all theses possibilities will be very time consuming to you, so I wish you a good luck.

Hi.
Everything works like a charm om my e525 with Ubuntu 10.04 .

Bob Herrmann, Monday 29 of March, 2010 [12:53:00]

I bought a Emachines E525 on a lark at bestbuy for $275. It's one of the best laptops I've ever used for running Ubuntu. I initially loaded Ubuntu 9.04 and then upgraded to 9.10 (starting with 9.10 was problematic.) Everything seems to work great!. 3D acceleration (for compvis), external monitor at 1900×1200, Wifi… My 525 has no web cam. Overall I've been thrilled with it.

tricia, Friday 29 of January, 2010 [22:55:38]

how do you use the webcam?? i supposedly have one, and the guy at best buy told me i had one…………but………………….

J-F Lucas, Saturday 30 of January, 2010 [04:40:50]

Sorry but the webcam is not my concern. I am not interested in it. In fact I have not tested it.

Greg, Friday 12 of February, 2010 [01:41:14]

Did you ever figure this out? i just got myself one and I cant figure out the darn webcam either

Jean-Francois Lucas, Saturday 17 of October, 2009 [08:12:56]

Yes, in fact i bought ACER eMachine e525, one week ago, everithing is OK under Windows Vista, but i prefer Linux. So, first i tried with SUSE 10.0 but the DVD is not recognized when installing, Then i succeded to install Kubuntu 9.04 but i came across this ethernet connexion pb, and tried with ubuntu 8.10, which is ok too, without this same connexion pb.
By searching on the net i finally understood that it was a driver pb. I found different web sites explaining the same method, and first i tried yours, which appeared shorter. I followed your link
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=7808827&postcount=8
and everything worked propely, and i got my wired internet connection. Thank you very much.

To you who make it under eMachine e525 be carefull of not confusing :
sudo modprobe atl1e with a 1, which is correct
with
sudo modprobe atlle
with a double ll, which is wrong.
