This is the summanry of Linux comptibility for Acer Extensa 5635G, a cheap and affordable 15.6” notebook. Most of hardare works out-of-the-box and the others is easy to get work, even for linux beginners (see Google more details).
This page is just for discussing using Linux on the Acer Extensa 5635G. For a general discussion about this laptop you can visit the Acer Extensa 5635G page on LapWik.
This notebook is well supported on Ubuntu (and its derivates) 8.10 and higher. Until BIOS update of the notebook, WiFi works only with “noacpi” at startup. Otherwise Wifi and CPU frequency scalling is out of oderd. Also the graphic card needs to install nvidia proprietary driver and then edit the Xconf file for fix “8 screens on display” bug. Other harware works out of the box, even suspend and hibernation works fine.
Extensa 5635G is very good and cheap laptop to works under Linux. Afer flash a new BIOS from Acer's website and fix the problem with nvdia driver you will be satisfied. I recommnend this for buy.
