This is a guide to running Linux with the Acer TravelMate 8200-8204WLMi laptop. This is a higher end laptop but like many Acer laptops it is well priced.
This guide is intended to provide you details on how well this laptop works with Linux and which modules you need to configure. For details on how to actually install and configure the required modules have a look at our guides section for distribution specific instructions.
Currently the open source radeon module does not support the ATI Mobility Radeon x1600. However support is available in the current version of the proprietary ATI module. The proprietary module is required for the display to function.
Like all Intel Core notebooks, it is recommended to use a Linux distribution with kernel 2.6.16 or greater on the Acer TravelMate 8200. The proprietary modules is the main hurdle for this laptop, other than that it works well with Linux.
