Notes

Suspend to Ram works with kernel commandline option i8042.reset=1.
Suspend to Disk (aka hibernate) works.
Starting with linux-kernel 2.6.34-rc5 (perhaps even 2.6.33) there are no wlan problems any more.

I have a computer just as the one described and it is not recommended to run linux, the cpu-fan spins at its highest all the time

Strange. I run Mint XFCE and my cpu-fan is very low.
