Either the open source radeon module or ATI's proprietary fglrx module can be used with the ATI Mobility Radeon x700 chip. To use 3D you need the ATI drivers. Our guide can help you to install these drivers.
You can't go wrong with Linux on the Asus A7Vc. It is well supported with little configuration work required.
