This system was tested with Ubuntu 9.04. Everything works straight out of the box but you do need an external DVD drive (or some other method) to install Linux since this system doesn't come with a optical drive.
The were absolutely no problem installing Linux on the Asus Eee PC 1000HA.
Discussion
I installed EEEbuntu on mine and it worked perfectly, no fixes required. EEEbuntu is basicly Ubuntu 9.04 with a custom kernal. I highly recomend it. I believe I found the directions for installing from a thumb disk on the site. Basicly you download the image file and then a small program for windows that makes the disk. After that, ensure that your BIOS looks to the USB first for boot medium and your set.
Just so people know my experience, I first tried easy peasy and it was very problematic on this netbook. In order to get sound to work you need to do quite a bit of work and i just was not willing to spend the hours it would have taken. Note that easy peasy uses a much older version of ubuntu and the sound drivers were not perfected.
There's another possibility: install a classic Ubuntu (or KUbuntu) and add the Kernel Array (http://www.array.org/ubuntu/), which is the Linux kernel with all the drivers needed to be used with the EEEPC, and in DEB format, ready to be installed in Ubuntu.
