This is a guide to running Linux with the Asus F2J laptop. Unfortunately this laptop has a sound issue under Linux so is not one of the best picks available.
This guide is intended to provide you details on how well this laptop works with Linux and which modules you need to configure. For details on how to actually install and configure the required modules have a look at our guides section for distribution specific instructions.
Both ATI's fglrx and Xorg's radeon driver work with the ATI Mobility Radeon x1400 in the Asus F2J. However 3D only works with the driver from ATI. Please follow our Configuring an ATI graphics chip guide for further details.
For sound to work in this laptop you may need to add the following line to /etc/modules.conf or your distributions equivalent: options snd-hda-intel model=uniwill-m31 The headphone socket does not appear to work at all.
With the sound issue in the Asus F2J this is not the best laptop to use with Linux. Hopefully future releases from the ALSA project will fix this problem.

All works fine on Ubuntu 9.04 including voice recording and web cam. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/AsusF2J
I've installed Ubuntu 8.10 on F2J. All works ok except voice recording (very silent).
