I am running a Gentoo-Linux using kde 4.3 with kernel 2.6.31 on this laptop. I also tested knoppix, elive, sabayon. All worked well. This Laptop is not problematic in Linux.
Works well with Gentoo-Linux. Only problem: NEVER plug in or plug out the power-adapter, when the Laptop is running in Linux. It will in most cases lock the system completely. (The caps-lock-led blinks, and nothing works anymore) This problem is still present, from kernel 2.6.29 up till 2.6.31. If you hibernate for plugging it works. Hibernating works like a charm on it with all the tested kernels. The system is stuck so hard, you have to unplug the akku, so it gets up again. (Also the newest bios changes nothing in this behaviour)
It really is a nice Laptop, with an installed SSD as system-disk, it is a beast in speed, and performs my Desktop with a Q6600 out in most cases. (I need a ssd in my desktop now )
My usb-ports work without problems. (usb-sticks, usb-mouse,handy,camera) usb-drives, hmm (codepage ?, ums) What does grep show you after plugging in?
I did not try to get the keys working. webcam, as said above : UVC in kernel, and only working with programs that support this (guvcviewer, skype) If you got a persistant problem, I can try to give you my kernel-config. (But hmmm gentoo, no vanilla)

Hey I just bought this same model computer, and have installed ubuntu 9.1 64 bit on it. I dont thing my USB drives are working, because the computer is not recognizing my mouse, or my external hard drive. Do you know of a way to fix this? Also, how do i get my webcam and the 4 special buttons at the top of the keyboard to work?
