The built-in mic works but the sound is of poor quality. Could not make the external mic to work, there is one combo jack for headphone AND mic, the choice is software-made in Windows
Running Ubuntu 10.10 64bits with no problems except for the external mic. Given the screen ratio and size, installing 'ubuntu-netbook' package and using the Unity interface gives more vertical space to work.
In France (Europe?), you can ask for refund of the Windows licence if not agreed with on startup (no activation). As of 2011/01/24, amount of refund is 65 euros. To ask for refund, contact the technical service within 7 days after purchase: http://vip.asus.com/eservice/techserv.aspx . You will have to send the licence sticker back to Asus. Unsticking is not an ease task: you can use a soft plastic card while heating with a hair-dryer.
You can enter any specific notes with running Linux on the Asus P42F here.
