This is a guide to running Linux with the Asus U3S laptop.
This guide is intended to provide you details on how well this laptop works with Linux and which modules you need to configure. For details on how to actually install and configure the required modules have a look at our guides section for distribution specific instructions.
The GeForce 8400M in the Asus U3S currently is not supported by the open source 'nv' module. For functioning graphics you will need to install the proprietary NVIDIA driver.
You will need to use a distribution which includes kernel 2.6.22 or greater. Older kernels will not fully support this laptop.
The graphics controller is the main issue in getting Linux running on the Asus U3S properly. However after these drivers are installed the laptop works just fine.
