Depending on how updated your distro is you might run linux on this latop easily or it will be somewhat more trouble. For instance, archlinux failes to load network drivers for the enternet card, ubuntu has the same issue although can easily be installed and load a custom driver later and backtrack 4 has a built in driver that supports the wireless (injection AND listening) but has the same issues as arch when it comes to the wired card.
In my experience the linux support on this model was somewhat varied, some things work and some things dont. This is to be expected when considering that this is a completly new model, I recon most of these issues will be ironed out in a few months.
I just installed ubuntu karmic rc 64 and most of the hardware is working out-of-the box.
The webcam shows upside-down picture, so I also have to do my search for solution, and the kb backlight is also not working.

Update:
Ethernet adapter is recognized, but not working immediately. I have to switch off networking and on again to be able to go online. Maybe try the above solutions one by one, reboot and see if it is working correctly.
The laptop hangs after you bring it back from its inactive state.
There is no Asus powermanagement available.

I installed Ubuntu 9.04.
Wireless LAN is working.
Ethernet is not working. Tried this http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=770173 but it does not work (maybe after restart). This also didn't work http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1206649&highlight=ethernet+connectionGraphic card cannot be recognized, need to be installed separately, but games “flicker” afterwards.
Hot keys do not work:
- The nice feature of the backlighted keyboard does not work.
- I found a solution for the screen brightness adjustment
Webcam does initially not work. I searched the whole day and night and got this one working including the correction of the upside down screen.
Sound is very weak via the speakers, but good with external speakers.
I installed 4 GB, but only see 3GB, which is due to the fact that I installed 32bits.
Express gate is gone (here to install it again: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1049170)
Pretty much it means that my laptop is reduced to a netbook.
