This is a guide to running Linux with the Asus W2Jc laptop. This notebook has a good array of features with a nice big screen but unfortunately is let down by audio issues under Linux.
This guide is intended to provide you details on how well this laptop works with Linux and which modules you need to configure. For details on how to actually install and configure the required modules have a look at our guides section for distribution specific instructions.
For the ATI Mobility Radeon x1600 in the Asus W2Jc to work you can use either the open source radeon module or ATI's proprietary fglrx module. For installation instructions, you can view our Configuring an ATI graphics chip guide. For 3D support, you will need the proprietary module.
Currently the audio system in the Asus W2Jc does to work in Linux. There is a bug report at https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=2565. Unfortunately this is common with many new notebooks which hopefully will be fixed by a future ALSA/kernel release.
With the audio issues currently affecting the Asus W2Jc it is not a good choice for Linux. Hopefully future ALSA releases will fix this issue which will make this notebook a good choice.
