Unfortunately at this time (up to and including Ubuntu 10.10) there is no drivers to support the SIS graphics controller included. This limits you to using the VESA drivers which are not very usable.
The graphics problem with the Asus X58C makes this laptop a poor choice for Linux.
Discussion
It works with widescreen resolution (Ubuntu 9.10) but in 2D mode only.
