This is a guide to running Linux with the Dell Latitude D420 laptop. Like its predecessor, the Dell Latitude D410, the D420 is a small laptop with good internals. Linux isn't too hard to setup on the laptop.
This guide is intended to provide you details on how well this laptop works with Linux and which modules you need to configure. For details on how to actually install and configure the required modules have a look at our guides section for distribution specific instructions.
The native 1280×800 display resolution on the Dell Latitude D420 is an issue with Linux when the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 is used. You can find more information about this issue and a guide on fixing it here.
Latitude D420 may also come with the Dell 1390 or 1490 wireless network controller. Neither of these cards has been tested at this time.
