Some models of the Vostro 1310 include the NVIDIA Geforce 8400M. This chip has been reported to work with the proprietary nvidia modules.
Some versions of the Vostro 1310 include the Dell Wireless 1395 and 1505 controllers which are Broadcom based. These are not well supported under Linux and should be avoided if possible. If you are about to order this laptop it is recommended you select an Intel wireless option as tested here.
The sound on the Vostro 1310 works but depending on which ALSA version you are running you may have issues with headphones and the microphone. If this is happening you will need to update to the latest version of ALSA. The guides on this site should help.
The Dell Vostro 1310 work very well with Linux. If you avoid the Broadcom based wireless controllers then running Linux on this laptop is simple.

I'm very frustrated - a ton of error messages during shutdown and the touchpad doesn't work. Seems to be a known kernel bug report. You'll find many forum posts about the topic but you'd have to patch the kernel yourself. The patches didn't make it in the main kernel yet.
i have dell vostro 1310.tell me that graphics mode will support or not in linux redhat 5.1 operating system.if yes then give me a suggestion about how we can do it.if any driver is required then send me a link.
My broadcom wi-fi works pretty well with broadcom-sta drivers (I'm using debian testing, where they can be installed with module-assistant)

I tried new b43 driver in 2.6.32 kernel (you need fwcutter for that), and it even sometimes works, but after a while it starts to give you fatal dma errors, thus, I switched back to broadcom-sta.
same here Broadcom (narrowcom) useless, with Mandriva2010 64bit, cannot workout with brightness adjestment
The webcam and bluetooth are detected and work ok:

mic needs kernel >= 2.6.28 iirc, older versions don't work don't detect it.
depending on your wifi card, you may need ndiswrapper.

Can run Linux SUSE11.1 on Dell new Vostro 1310 laptop?
nothing I can do to patch the wireless chipset all information given do not work to do it
What linux distribution did you use ?
Was it x86-32 bit or 64 bit ?

I should have read this article before…
I ordered a broadcom based wireless.
I have not tested the webcam yet, because i am trying to solve the wireless problem. But the rest of the issues are done.
I use Slackware 12.1, but I had to compile the new stable kernel version.
That's it.
