This laptop was tested with Ubuntu 9.10
The sound is the major issue with the Fujitsu Amilo Pi3540. Hopefully an update will fix this problem.

Im running ubuntu 10.04 on an amilo 3540. I got the microphone working by selecting microphone 2 instead of 1. Dunno why but it worked.
I have one with 4GB RAM and have problems with installing and running most Linux 64bit versions. During installation the process crashes. You need to either tell the linux installation that you have 4GB RAM or physically remove RAM so that total RAM is not more than 3GB. In many linux versions you can specify that. For instance, in Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10 when you start the installation, you need to press F6 for options and at the end of the line you need to type “mem=4096M” (without the quotes).
Then the installation process will execute successfully. But that is not all, you also need to specify the mem=4096M option in the boot options of GRUB or LILO. Or else your linux will crash. Even then, when you go to the system monitor you will see that your linux only recognises 3GB RAM instead of 4GB. Somebody said that Fujitsu designed a faulty memory controller that gives the wrong values to the OS.
I'm using 64bit Debian on my Amilo Pi 3540 and have the full 4GB RAM. I had to update my BIOS to 1.10C

I have this Laptop and i formatted it with linux ubuntu 9.10 to try it out.
Its was my first Linux and ive never really tried it before that.
All the drivers works except for the Microphone.
It was always muted nomatter what and i tried arround 1000 of solutions and never got it to work.
Try this guide and see how you go.
