This laptop supports both the open source radeon module and the proprietary ATI module. The proprietary module would probably give you the best 3D performance.
This is a very good laptop to use with Linux, all the major features work without difficulty.
Discussion
I've installed Ubuntu (at the moment 9.04 aka intrepid) and all works really well.
All hardware incl. the extra buttons from scratch.
I'm sorry, but I made a mistake. 9.04 is jaunty jackalope.
