I have a P1630 and it runs Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty nicely. The only problem is the touchscreen, where my current connection xorg is not sampling often enough for a smooth rendering of handwriting with the stylus (see my blog http://andrewufrank.blogspot.com/2009/08/fujitsu-lifebook-p1630-touchscreen.html)

battery (small) gives about 3 hours. suspend and hibernate both work well.
overall happy. the touchscreen works with my fingernail, which i have always available!
Discussion
i put the page in originally and am very pleased to see that somebody else has tested the sound and reported here.
i have still a problem with sound - an annoying noise when it shuts down (and sometimes for other errors); any idea why?
i also have difficulties with the touchscreen - it does not always calibrate correctly (under ubuntu 9.10).
last, but not least: the shutdown or suspend does not complete occasionally, the cpu continues running and the battery is drained.
any tips how to fix these problems?
