This is a compatibility guide to running Linux with the Fujitsu Stylistic ST5112 laptop.

Intel drivers for Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic cause the screen to remain black except for a shadowy 'inward melting' effect that makes me fear I'm damaging it. VESA drivers are fine until a window changes, and the display breaks up unreadably until the windows stop changing. 4G of RAM will show as 3328 in the BIOS (no Windows) and in Linux. Fujitsu claims this RAM is mapped to devices and usable in 64bit Operating Systems - I don't know.
The sound is unusable with ALSA. Extensive trials with various arguments produce no sound, except from the headphone. OSS4 may give complete functionality, but is complex and does not work with suspend/resume - all programs must be closed and the driver unloaded first. Given that this is a laptop that doesn't really fit the profile.
Discussion
I had very little problems with Fedora 15 (beta) on this tablet.
