The HP Envy 14 is not ready to be used with Linux nowadays:
This laptop provides “switchable graphics” but this feature is not supported by mainstream distributions like Ubuntu 10.04 or Fedora 13. More information about switchable graphics here: http://linux-hybrid-graphics.blogspot.com/.
All the multi-media keys worked out of the box, including the wifi and backlit keyboard on/off switches. I seemed to get about 3h of battery life with wifi on.
I did not have time to test all the features because I wanted to return the laptop for another model: the Envy 14 is a sturdy good looking laptop, but the price, the strong glare on the glossy screen (the screen update to radiance is just too expensive), the unreliable touchpad (even on windows with the updated drivers the experience wasn't great), the weight and the size where too many small cons to keep it.
