HDD or RAM upgrade is little bit complicated as the unit does not contain any mounting doors for upgrades. You need to remove battery, front cover, keyboard and palm rest until you get to HDD or memory modules. See http://petekmet.blogspot.com/2010/06/hp-probook-4320s-hdd-replacement.html
Running Ubuntu 10.04 without any additional drivers; all that I use has worked so far.
In case of my girlfriend it showed strange behaviour with linux. I have not yet found where problem is, so take this note as preliminary. The strange behavour started already before install. I needed to run PartedMagic to play a bit with partitions (4 primary partitions were squatted by windows and HP stuff). But the PartedMagic was unable to start. Hanged all the time just between finishing coppying into ram and running the session.
I was able to do all partitioning with Debian, but later on, Debian started to freeze during just very common tasks. It was not able to switch the run leveles, even did not react to pressing switch off button which was set on shutdown in power manager. So the hard shutdown was needed. I expected possible problem with the potential need of some proprietary drivers, so I tried OpenSuse. But the behaviour was same and furthermore the performance was very poor (precisely slow). Tried Xubuntu 10.04, nice performance, but the same trouble.

At the moment the machine seems to work fine. But the condition of the proper work is x86 - not 64bit! - version of (X)ubuntu 10.04.2 with kernel 2.6.32-28. Ubuntu 10.04.2 offers newer (2.6.32-32) kernel, which I have not tried yet. Since it is a computer, on which my girlfriend works, so I do not want to change what is running smoothly. I have tried also newest Ubuntu 11.04, which causes the same trouble as mentioned above, even more often than the 10.04 version. And actually, I have quickly experienced this trouble with both x86 and amd64 versions of Ubuntu 11.04.

if I could choose do you think I should go for an Ati 530v or for an integrated Intel HD gpu version of this notebook? Working with Fedora 14 at the moment but other distros are welcome.

Installed Ubuntu Lucid and most of the thing was working just fine. I met 4 issues:
1 - Brightness control - there was no way to control LCD brightness, probably related to video driver. Finally I solved issue by removing FGLRX video driver package from Ubuntu repos and installed ATI 10.6 driver downloaded from here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx Now I can change brightness without problem.
2 - Ethernet card - After first successful use, card got stuck and could not establish connection (like if there is bad cable). Even reboot won't help. You need to remove battery and power source for a while. Then deactivate Wake-on-Lan option in BIOS. This should solve issue once for all (If you don't need Wake-on-Lan).
3 - Disk Noise during battery power - Disk is noisy when running on battery. It's due to know issue with disk power management as written here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AsusUL/HddCycles . Resolved using this: https://lists.launchpad.net/asus-ul30/msg00035.html
4 - Multitouch - touchpad works fine in single touch mode, multitouch don't work even when enabled using GPointing Device Setting. Turing touchpad off using tap on left top corner won't work too. Not big deal though.
Hopefully that's all issues and otherwise notebook runs very nicely with Ubuntu, giving two and half to 3 hours on battery.
Let me know if you happen to make it work suspend to RAM and wakeup with ATI driver. I suspect ATI driver to fail the wakeup.
