The modem needs the proprietary Linuxant module to function.
You may have issues selecting certain resolutions with an external monitor. If this is the case you will need to update your version of Xorg. This will fix the problem.
Some versions of the Thinkpad R52 include a ATI based graphic card. This works with both the Xorg 'radeon' module and the proprietary module from ATI. You will have better 3D support from the proprietary module. Our guides cover this installation.
Some versions of the Thinkpad use a Atheros based wireless controller. You can use the Madwifi module for support which is included with most Linux distributions.
This laptop works very well under Linux. Nothing difficult in getting this one working at all.
