For full 3D support for the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 in the Lenovo IdeaPad Y710 you will need to install the proprietary ATI modules. Instructions for doing this on several distributions are available in the guides section of this site.
As long as you use a up to date Linux distributions you should have very few problems with the Lenovo IdeaPad Y710. All its hardware is supported by Linux and is typically auto-configured during installation.

Upgraded to 11.04 and now the wireless lan has played the Houdini on me
How's the sound? I only get the front speakers working …
Unfortunately, there is a BIOS incompatability (acpi related) that causes interference with GRUB. So either use GRUB (comes as standard with Ubuntu etc) and see the optical drive disappear (plus HD unmount issues at shutdown) or add “acpi=off” to grub.conf loosing acpi or move over to LILO. I've taken the LILO route, now optical drive is live but there are still some suspend issues left - guess I need to switch off acpi.
Slightly frustrating especially since Lenovo does not update the BIOS…
