Notes

Graphics

The T510 models with the Quadro NVS 3100M works best with the proprietary NVIDIA drivers. You can see the guides section on this site for installation details.

Wireless

Intel has yet to release firmware for the Intel 6250 wireless controller so that wont work at this stage. The 6200 and 6300 are fine.

In Ubuntu 9.10, to get wireless working you may need to install the linux-backport-modules-karmic package. Use the following:

sudo apt-get install linux-backport-modules-karmic

Fingerprint Reader

Install Protector Suite for Linux

To enroll: $ enroll

For PAM, Add this as the first line to PAM configuration files, Ex: /etc/pam.d/sudo

auth sufficient pam_upek.so

Summary

The Lenovo ThinkPad T510 is a great laptop to use with Linux as long as you avoid the Intel 6250 wireless controller.

I just got one of these for work, and installed Linux Mint 10 KDE x86-64 edition on it. Everything seems to work great, except for the video: it seems to have problem where it doesn't want to update immediately, and I have to flip windows to get it to update sometimes. According to lsmod, it's using the i915 video driver. Anyone see this problem, or know what to do about it?

Fedora 14 x86_64 worked just fine, out of the box. But right now I'm looking for how to get the built in web-cam to work. It is recognized by hal.

Model 431434M. Debian 6.0 64-bit working perfectly. USB and wireless mice both work flawlessly. Didn't try Bluetooth, modem, firewire, card reader. *.mp3's play perfectly. No special drivers were installed.

Mandriva 10 doesn't work. I have a black screen at startup. Anyone know this problem ?

X-Server crashes often completely (openSuSE 11.3, T510 with Intel Arrandale Graphics)

http://intellinuxwireless.org/ Lists the 6250AGN as supported now ..
can someone confirm?

Parsix 3.6 Vinnie(debian variant)couldn't detect my wireless card, which made me very sad. Xubuntu, Mint9 (isadora), and Mint XFCE could see it but had problems getting a signal. Peppermint worked flawlessly out of the box.

Installing protector suite 0.1 rc3 fedora rpm on openSUSE 11.3 64bit leads to segfault when trying to enroll :-(

No problem installing Ubuntu 10.04, and running perfectly with the Nvidia Drivers… Quite nicely done!
