The version of ALSA included with current Linux distributions isn't new enough to support the sound controller in the X300. To fix this you need to manually install at least version 1.0.17 of ALSA. Have a look in our guides section here for instructions.
The webcam is supported by the UVC module. Many distributions do not include this module as standard so you may need to install it manually. See our guides sections for details.
Some configuration work is currently required for the Lenovo Thinkpad X300 to function with Linux properly. However you can expect upcoming Linux distributions will work better.

Will try to install CentOS 5.2 (DVD version) on my X300
As of 01/24/09 WHAX does not see anything networking by default.. still looking to see what is going on.
