This is a guide to running Linux with the Samsung X60 laptop. The X60 is a high end level laptop which a nice array of features. Linux support for this laptop is good is as long as an up to date distribution is used.

With the x1400 graphics chip used in the X60 you can use either the open source radeon module or ATI's proprietary fglrx module. For instructions in installing the fglrx module view our Configuring an ATI graphics chip guide. Only the proprietary module provides 3D support for the x1400.
Some older distributions may have problems with the X60's sound controller. Update to the latest ALSA drivers if this is the case for you.
There were no problems installing Linux on the X60 if an up to date Linux distribution is used.

18G mounted as /, 1.5G mounted as swap. No partition allocated for /boot. Is this reasonable?

Fedora 7 + Samsung X60
Both PCMCIA (tested with 4GB CF ) and BT appear to be working OK
with Dedora 7.
I'm not clear, do you mean the PCMCIA slot or the card reader? Your comment seems to contradict each other.
