The 3G-Modem and the GPS are the same device. It work well with HSO-Connect (VGN-P29VN).

1. Obviously, you have to initialise the device first, and you have to boot windows for that - after reboot, it is reported to work under Linux (I cannot confirm it, I have no windows anymore)

options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba-s06and have no problems - the built in microphone works, too.3. I had the same crashes, until booted kernel in uniprocessor mode (kernel parameter nosmp) and had no crash ever since.

I recently bought my vaio p from japan. It has gps/wwan and 2ghz proc.
I installed minimal ubuntu 9.10 with xfce4 on it and it runs pretty well.
After installing the vaio-z sony-laptop module the wwan shows in lsusb as “Option”.
The probles I have atm are:
1. cant use gps, can't see the device
2. sound sometimes stops playing - i'm trying different model names in alsa conf. I started with auto and experienced the mentioned problems.
With model basic sound comes from both speakers/headphones. Now I'm trying model=sony-assamd.
3. sometimes the system hangs hard… have to restart. Haven't found a solution nor reason yet, but i suspect poulsbo, so I turned the DRI off in xorg.conf. So far so good.
Anyways… I'm really happy with it. In fullscreen glxgears with native resolution I get nearly 300 fps. Youtube fullscreen is smooth. That's enough for me :)
If you could guide me about the gps… it would be really great! I can help with other stuff if needed.

does yours have a hardware wireless switch or did you use iwconfig?
I installed ubuntu 8.10 on my vaio p.
Everything works except the following:
suspend/hibernate
audio works kinda
* problem getting sound to not play from speakers when headphones are plugged in
video works with skype, but reports audio problems
brightness and power management don't seem to work. Probably because of vesa drivers. getting x to manage this better.
vesa video is all that works because gma 500 drivers are poo
can't turn wireless off. Wireless acts like its off, but still drains power.
