The X500 was tested with Ubuntu 9.10 and Ubuntu 10.04
Some people have observed some flakiness of this driver, if you are having this issue you may like to periodically check the Realtek download page for updated drivers.
This laptop uses the Realtek 8172 wireless controller. At the moment no Linux distribution supports this as standard so you will need to compile and install it yourself. You can download the drivers from the Realtek 8192se driver page. Even though it states the drivers are for the 8192se they also work with the 8172. Also see this guide for details on installing this driver with Ubuntu 9.10. I'm also planning to write guides for other distributions as well so keep an eye on Linwik.

The wireless is the main issue with running Linux on the Toshiba Qosmio X500. It's actually not clear when this issue will be properly resolved.

I have 0 problems w/ 10.04 Ubuntu, everything runs flawlessly im not sure what is wrong with your installations.. the only thing that does not work is the crack head mode of scrolling w/ mouse pad, nor the swirl scroll

I was thinking of getting a Qosmio X500 and I wanted to check linux compatibility. It looks to me like the mic and card reader problems have fixes. Not sure about the flaky wireless card though.

in Toshiba Qosmio X500-11G ubuntu 10.10 , kubuntu 10.10 and Lubuntu 10.10 do not run , also i tried kubuntu 11.04 and ubuntu 11.04 (02/12/2010 ) they do not .
ubuntu 10.04 works.
also slackware cureent (30/11/2010 ) works.
Which distribution ?
Can you reply me when the issue will be fixe, or maybe it is already fixed !! :) Cause i always got that reply:

How can i fix it to have a wireless Extensions working ?? Like ath0 or wlan0 etc…
