You will need to use the ATI's proprietary fglrx module for 3D support from the ATI Mobility Radeon x700 in the M70. The open source radeon module does not support 3D. For installation instructions for the ATI driver you can view our Configuring an ATI graphics chip guide.
Like many other Centrino based laptops the Toshiba Satellite M70 has no problem at all handling Linux.
