For best results you will need to install the proprietary NVIDIA driver for the 130M in the Tecra P5. The Xorg 'nv' driver does not properly support this card yet so you will have to install the NVIDIA driver before the display will work properly.
Kernel 2.6.22 or later is required for some of the components in the Tecra P5. Ubuntu 7.10 and Fedora 8 are two option which work well here.
Installing the Nvidia driver is the major issue with this laptop. After this is done the Toshiba Tecra P5 works just fine with Linux.

Hi,
I've just installed Ubuntu 8.1 (previously used 8.04). Using both versions, I haven't been able to get my sound to work correctly. Sometimes I've had sound come out of the speakers and my headphones at the same time. Sometimes I've been able to get an external mic to work (never the internal mic). I've got Alsamixer 1.0.17 installed. Can anyone help please?

Hi,
I've just spent some time getting Ubuntu 8.04 installed on my P5.
For those having trouble getting the NVIDIA drivers working I recommend the script 'ENVY' from the link below. It automatically detects and downloads the correct NVIDIA driver for your machine. This saved me heaps of time.
